Our History
How did a group of independent consultants with almost nothing in common
manage to form a corporation and thrive in the face of creative differences?
The founders of Toydrum will tell you that they don't know either, but
they've loved every moment. This is their story.
Toydrum, Inc. was established in 2002 by a multicultural group of web and
media professionals -- a graphic artist, a website applications programmer
and a project manager. Their dream was to create a corporate environment
that would incubate and encourage innovative concepts.
You may think that such a group would find it difficult to identify and
brand itself, and indeed, this was an ongoing struggle for the majority of
our first year together. One week we would be working on a concept for a
website template engine, the next week a new search engine marketing
strategy, the next week laying out a magazine, or touching up photos for a
CD jewel case insert. When our clients or prospects would ask, "what does
Toydrum do?" the answer would be different almost every time we gave one.
Such an identity crisis was at times, painful and difficult, however our
collection of diverse backgrounds, cultures and talents is the fuel by which
we have been able to be at our most creative, our most productive and our
most innovative. Always keeping an eye on the concept which brought us
together, we drew from each other's knowledge and experience. When one of us
would be stuck with a problem, we'd ask the other two for assistance, even
if those people knew nothing about what we needed solved, just talking
problems out and getting a fresh point of view was all we needed to keep
working, learning and growing.
In our first year of being in business we worked on creating an inventory
control system for a restaurant, a streamlined management process for a
small, independent newspaper, several website and graphic design projects, a
complete package of PR material for a local band, a bilingual (Spanish and
English) project for the Tulsa Area Fair Housing Partnership, and several
special projects for local newspapers and magazines.
So who is Toydrum? What do we do? We are the engineers and architects of our
clients' business goals. When we are approached with a concept, we use our
collective minds to see the big picture, and to plan out the steps necessary
to make the concept into a viable project; something by which our clients
can prosper. Whether we are creating a print layout, a website, or software
application, we have the ability to see the idea from all sides, to look at
issues from many points of view, and ultimately to turn ideas into reality.
